Town of View Royal Launches Consultation for New Urban Forest Strategy
October 3, 2024
View Royal, BC – The Town of View Royal is seeking input from residents to help guide the future of View Royal’s urban forest, which includes all trees and forests within its parks, greenspaces, and woodlands, as well as trees along streets and on private land. The Urban Forest Strategy (UFS) will provide a short-term (5 years) to long-term (15+ years) roadmap for creating a diverse, resilient and healthy urban forest by enhancing its management, protection, and growth.
The first round of public engagement is now open, inviting residents to share their values and perspectives through an online survey. The survey will be available until October 30, 2024.
About the UFS
The urban forest in View Royal is a vital asset that contributes to improved air quality, biodiversity, and recreational opportunities. However, pressures from urban growth, climate change, and various other forest health concerns pose significant challenges to its resilience. In response, the Town is committed to developing a long-term strategy that aligns with community needs and supports a sustainable future.
The UFS aims to:
- Assess the current condition of the urban forest;
- Establish a community-supported vision and goals; and
- Provide strategic actions to grow, manage, and protect the urban forest.
