Requirements to Be a Candidate
To be nominated, elected and hold office as a member of local government, you must:
- Be a Canadian citizen;
- Be eighteen (18) years of age or older on general voting day (October 15, 2022);
- Be a resident of British Columbia for at least six (6) months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed; and
- Not be disqualified by the Local Government Act or any other enactment from being nominated for, being elected to or holding the office, or be otherwise disqualified by law.
Nomination Package
Nomination Packages are available for download or pick up during office hours at View Royal Town Hall (45 View Royal Avenue).
Completed candidate nomination packages must be delivered to the Chief Election Officer or Deputy Chief Election Officer by 4:00pm on September 9, 2022:

When can candidates begin campaigning?
There are no time restrictions for people to go out and talk to others to let them know they plan to run for office. Nomination Period officially begins at 9:00am on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 and runs until 4:00pm on Friday, September 9, 2022 at which point the Chief Election Officer will make a declaration of candidates.
Post Election Information
Election results will be tabulated very shortly after the polls close on general voting day and the preliminary results will be announced at View Royal Elementary School. Immediately thereafter, results will be posted on the Town’s website and notice board as well as on the CivicInfo BC website (www.civicinfo.bc.ca).
The Chief Election Officer will determine the official election results at 9:00am on Monday, October 17, 2022 at View Royal Town Hall, 45 View Royal Avenue. All candidates are welcome to be present at this time.
The Chief Election Officer will declare the official election results at 3:30pm on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at View Royal Town Hall, 45 View Royal Avenue.
