Elections
In British Columbia, Local Government Elections are held every four years. By-elections occur if a council seat becomes vacant within the four year term.
For the Town of View Royal, these include the election of:
- one (1) Mayor;
- six (6) Councillors;
- nine (9) School Board Trustees for Greater Victoria School District No. 61;
- four (4) School Board Trustees for Sooke School District No. 62.
The next General Voting Day in View Royal will be held in October 2026.
Election Signage in View Royal
Election signage is regulated by the Town’s bylaws to help maintain public safety, reduce visual clutter, and limit environmental impacts. These regulations apply to all elections—municipal, provincial, and federal.
Key Guidelines:
-
Election signs are not permitted on public property, including roadsides, medians, parks, and other land owned or maintained by the Town.
-
Signs may be placed on private property with the permission of the property owner. Candidates and campaign teams are reminded to confirm property boundaries before placing signage.
-
All election signs must be removed within 48 hours after the close of voting.
