Town Council Considers Waiving DCCs for Affordable Rental Apartments at 1938 West Park Lane
April 29, 2019
Increasing the supply of affordable rental housing in View Royal, and across the Capital Region, is an important priority. 35% of people renting in View Royal currently spend 30% or more of their income on rent.
For the first time, the Town has received an application to build 152 not-for-profit rental apartments. Located at 1938 West Park Lane, half of the apartments are considered affordable rental, with rents below market rates. The other half are near or at market rates.
Increased supply and diversity of housing provide more options and choice for all View Royal residents. The development proposes a mix of units for all family types and stages of life. It could be homes for small families, single parents, seniors, or individuals with disabilities.
Consistent with how other BC municipalities facilitate the construction of affordable rental options, the Town is currently considering waiving the development cost charges for this specific site, located at 1938 West Park Lane.
