Emergency Radio Communications
View Royal and Colwood Emergency Radio Communication
During emergency situations, emergency radio communications, also known as “amateur” or “ham” radio, provide a reliable means of communication that can replace or complement tradition communication mediums.
The View Royal and Colwood Communications Team is currently recruiting volunteer members. If you are interested in learning about emergency communications, emergency preparedness and have an interest in amateur radio (Ham), please consider joining our team.
Our Emergency Communications Teams is a joint team of Radio operators from Colwood and View Royal and we operate from fire stations and municipal halls in both communities and provide additional layers of communications to support our emergency management partners. We run weekly meetings (Nets) to test our systems and train in communication and radio technology. No experience necessary, we will provide the training you will need to be a successful team member. This can also include helping you obtain your amateur radio license.
What our Volunteers Do?
Licensed amateur radio operators volunteer throughout the province to assist with communications between individuals, and emergency operation centres when communications are down. Volunteers also assist with other emergency management functions such as communications planning, maintenance, public education, Emergency Support Services and staffing Emergency Operations Centres (information management).
